About This Episode
Genesis does not present domination as God’s original design for men and women.
Both male and female bear the image of God. Both receive humanity’s vocation. In Genesis 2, the woman is described as an ezer kenegdo—a corresponding partner, not an inferior assistant.
Domination enters the story after sin.
That distinction matters because Christian relationships should not simply reproduce the patterns of the fallen world and then call them biblical.
This episode examines how control can appear in marriage, family life, church leadership, friendship, and other relationships. Sometimes control is obvious through commands and intimidation. Sometimes it is subtler, working through guilt, fear, money, silence, or spiritual language.
Jesus gives us a different model.
His authority is real, but it is exercised through service, self-giving love, truth, and the protection of others. He does not make people smaller in order to establish His greatness.
Christian partnership therefore asks not, “How do I make others submit to me?” but, “How can I use whatever influence I have to help others become faithful, mature, and fully alive before God?”
Healthy authority multiplies dignity. Unhealthy authority consumes it.
