God does not defeat death by helping us escape the body. He defeats death by raising the body.

About This Episode
For many Christians, heaven has become the final destination—a distant spiritual realm where believers live forever after leaving the earth.
But the Bible’s final vision is not humanity permanently escaping creation.
It is resurrection and new creation.
Scripture certainly comforts us with the assurance that those who die in Christ are safe with Him. Yet the Christian story does not end with souls living apart from their bodies. Christ will return, the dead will be raised, evil will be judged, and creation will be liberated from corruption and death.
The bodily resurrection of Jesus is central to this hope. He was not raised merely as a spirit or preserved as a memory in the hearts of His followers. God raised Him bodily as the firstfruits of the coming resurrection.
What God did for Jesus is the pattern of what He will do for those who belong to Him.
The final chapters of Revelation do not portray humanity permanently departing from the earth. John sees the holy city coming down from heaven. God comes to dwell with humanity in a world made new.
This vision changes how Christians live now. Bodies matter. Justice matters. Creation matters. Peacemaking, healing, truthfulness, generosity, and faithful work all matter because God has not abandoned His world.
Heaven is not God giving up on creation. It is God giving creation back its future.
