IN CHRIST IS TRUE FULFILMENT

“I have seen another evil under the sun, and it weighs heavily on mankind: God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.” – Eccl. 6:1-2

Life brings challenges and disappointments, even for those who seem to have it all. Sometimes, people may have everything they desire, but they are unable to enjoy it. It’s like having a feast but being unable to taste the food. This can be disheartening and feel like a great injustice.

It reminds me of the philosopher Epicurus, who advocated for a life of pleasure and enjoyment. Despite his beliefs, he suffered from health issues that prevented him from truly savoring life’s pleasures. It’s a sobering reminder that having everything doesn’t guarantee happiness if we can’t fully experience or appreciate it.

These thoughts serve as a wake-up call from becoming too focused on material possessions or fleeting pleasures. While it’s nice to have good things in life, they shouldn’t overshadow what truly matters. True fulfillment comes from knowing and following God, seeking forgiveness, and living according to His will.

The Preacher reminds us that no matter how much we accumulate or experience, it doesn’t lead to a meaningful and lasting life. Eventually, we leave everything behind, and even while we’re here, possessions and experiences might not fulfill our deepest needs. The only way to find true meaning in them is by recognizing them as gifts from God and using them to honor and glorify Him.

It’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters and spend our resources on things that don’t bring us closer to God. The fullness of life isn’t found in possessions or experiences, but in knowing Jesus Christ and understanding God’s will. That’s where we find true fulfillment.
